Joep van Binsbergen

Nationality : Dutch (The Netherlands)

Country or Residence: Kenya

Joep van Binsbergen is CeO/Founder of the Agency Bridging capacities for Development (ABCD Ltd.) which assist NGOs with their procurement needs and outsourcing solutions, and its subsidiary www.expat-to-expat.com which is a full fletched resettlement service, assisting expats who relocate to East-Africa.

Joep worked for 12 years in Relief and Development. He started in relief (in Zimbabwe) then tried his hand at research in Livestock Economics (in Nigeria and Kenya), and ultimately found his place in the Operations Department of the Africa Regional office of World Vision International.

It was the loss of his dear wife (to cancer) that made Joep decide to start his own business, which he mostly manages from his home in Nairobi, so that he can be close to the three lovely young children. They are the legacy his wife Jitske Brouwer left him. As co-founder of the Owili foundation, she a remarkable person and one of the first supporters of James’ vision and ministry in Kiambu. Joep now serves as the chairman of Fountain of Hope’s advisory board.

Joep himself is a second generation ‘Development worker’; He spent a long part of his childhood in West-Africa (Burkina-Faso and Ivory Coast) where he was schooled in French. His career later brought him to East-, West- and Southern Africa.

Joep’s hobbies mainly revolve around music; He is involved in the worship team of Karen Vineyard Church, and also likes to play the in occasional jam-sessions/bands.

Grace W Mutura –Title: Treasurer to the board

Nationality: Kenyan Country of Residence: Kenya

Grace Wanjiru Mutura graduated from Kings Collage Nairobi in 1958, she holds a diploma in Secretarial and front office. Grace worked as a secretary in the Office of the President in State House, Kenya rising to a level of senior secretary. She is now retired. Grace is a wife, a mother and a grandmother of many kids some from her own bloodline and some adapted. There are many children and grown-ups that call her mother and grandmother out of her work in Fountain of Hope Life Centre. To many she is an epitome of hope and growth. Grace is a member of FOH advisory board and serves as its elected treasurer.

Grace is also a team leader and treasurer of Mother’s union of Anglican Church in Nairobi parish. She is a devout Christian, a door to door evangelist and a passionate social worker. In her free time she craves for travelling, listening to local worship songs and mentoring young women and men.

Mark De Blois  – Title: Secretary to the boardmark3

Nationality: Dutch (The Netherlands) Country of Residence: Kenya

Mark de Blois is the CEO/Founder of Upande Ltd, a social enterprise which provides advisory and technical development services in ICT and digital mapping. Mark worked as a mapping specialist for more than 12 years in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, before joining the Google Kenya maps team.  Mark left Google in 2011 to inaugurate Upande Limited (a name refers to ‘location’, ‘direction’, ‘destination’, ‘alongside’ and ‘up’, all of which are terms commonly used in mapping).

On a more personal level, Mark is so called adult missionary kid, having spent 12 years of his youth in Kenya. Mark is married to Jody and they have 2 kids. He worships at Mamlaka Hill Chapel where he is actively involved in bible study groups and in facilitating the Marriage Course. He serves as the secretary on the Fountain of Hope board. His hobbies include tinkering with computers and breeding endangered Lake Victoria fish.

pollykPolly Kamau – Board Member

Nationality: Kenyan Country of Residence: Kenya

Polly Kamau is a native of Kiambu County, Kenya. Polly has recently moved back to her homeland in Kenya to settle permanently. Polly holds a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, she also holds an MBA from Northwest Nazarene University, Idaho and a Bachelor of Commerce from Africa Nazarene University.

Polly has worked as a marketer and a policy analyst. She is one of the founders of the Affiliation of Kenyan students. She has extensive volunteer experience both in Kenya and USA. In the US she held various leadership positions as a student and in the Birmingham community. She is a Member of the Golden Key Honor Society. Polly is now serving in Fountain of Hope advisory board and heads sanitary towels sub-committee in the board. Polly is married and a mother of three. Her hobbies include mountain hiking reading, writing, mentoring young people deriving inspiration from her Christian faith & values. Polly loves gazing at the stars at night.

Francis W Thairu – Board Member

Nationality: Kenyan Country of Residence: Kenya

Francis Thairu attended Mombasa polytechnic University, Kenya & University of UAB at Birmingham, USA. He Majored in Mechanical engineering and mechanical structural and sculptural design. Francis worked for Bamburi Cement as a production and maintenance supervisor for 17 years.  He now serves as director for Mwimuto General Contractors in Kenya and City Auto and Trucks in Birmingham USA.

Francis is a member of Fountain of Hope Life Centre advisory board and is tasked with fundraising and publicity in the US where he partially lives with his family. His hobbies include art, automobiles and reading. Francis is a devout Christian and is married to Regina Njeri and together they have 2 grown up children.

 

image003-3James N Waruiru  Title: Founder & Project Manager

Nationality: Kenyan Country of Residence: Kenya

James Waruiru is a social entrepreneur and human rights activist. James is the founder and project manager of Fountain of Hope Life Center.  James is educated in social sciences. Under his leadership FOHYI has won a number of accolades including 2nd in 2010 Outside the Box Prize from Kansas University, USA and 1st prize in 2014 Travel-giver challenge. He became passionately engaged in social innovation after losing his sister to HIV/Aids, who succumbed after a spirited fight against the disease, stigma, poverty and limited information. In her honor, James Founded Fountain of Hope which he works for full time as a Project Manager.

James is an alumnus of Community solutions Program (CSP), CSP is a program of US department of state for education and cultural affairs.  CSP selects 100 fellows making remarkable impact in their communities; fellows are drawn from all over the world and placed in US-based organizations as interns. James maintains a good relationship with his host organization – The university of Kansas of which is helping to translate the community tool box into Kiswahili, James also helps to create and adapt Community Tool Box examples and materials for use in east African countries as part of the university’s work as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Community Health and Development.

During his free time James love to spend time at the park with his biological kids and many disadvantaged kids that his project support. James is also a great lover of  soccer and athletics.
